Free storytelling and speaking tools
Five free tools for planning, timing and practising a story you tell aloud. Work out how long a speech takes, test your reading pace, count filler words in a transcript, build a story spine, or draw a true story to retell. No signup, no uploads, and each tool runs in your browser.
All free tools
Speech time calculator
Turn a word count into speaking time, or minutes into words, at slow, average, fast or custom pace.
Words per minute speaking test
Read a 150-word passage aloud, time yourself and see your reading pace in words per minute.
Filler word counter
Paste a transcript, see every um and you know highlighted, and get a rate per 100 words.
Story spine generator
Build the eight-line story spine, watch it assemble and copy the finished outline.
Which tool do you need?
If you know your word count and need a time slot, start with the speech time calculator. If you need to know how fast you actually read, use the words per minute speaking test.
If you have a transcript and want to see the hesitations, open the filler word counter. If the story itself is the problem, the story spine generator gives you an eight-line outline, and the storytelling prompts give you a true story to retell.
All five tools stop before the spoken part. To practise with a true story at your level and have your pace, pauses and fillers measured, use SoulfulStories. The methodology page explains what is measured.
The tools stop where the telling starts.
They can plan, time and check a story on paper. SoulfulStories records you retelling a true story and measures the pace, pauses, fillers and story accuracy in your voice.
